The Allport Cargo Services Global Supply Chain Seminar in association with Retail Week, took place last week at the iconic and inspiring Shard in London. Senior supply chain executives from leading retailers including Asda, Debenhams, Pets at Home, Boots, Karen Millen, attended the executive briefing, which had a particular focus on the potential and challenges to growth in South East Asia and the implications and benefits of a great returns logistics strategy on customer experience.
Clyde Buntrock, VP Group Sales and Marketing, Allport Cargo Services welcomed delegates commenting that “This is the third time that Allport Cargo Services has invited innovative global supply chain managers – to explore real issues they are facing today. All our speakers are leaders in their field and provided real insight and practical advice for delegates.”
Allport Cargo Services have eight strategic investments in South East Asia and the company is developing sophisticated solutions in what is still an emerging market. Clyde explained: “We continually review our network to assess areas for process improvement. The South East Asia opportunity is certainly an exciting one for both Allport Cargo Services and our retail clients.”
Retail Weeks’, Charlotte Hardie, Head of Commercial Projects, chaired the event.
The speakers were all leaders in their field:
- Dr Carlo Bonura, Senior Teaching Fellow at SOAS, The University of London – Carlo presented a fascinating economic and political background into the reality of growth in this highly diverse and complex region, stressing that South East Asia has much promise.
- Asbjorn Kops, Director of Trade and Marketing at Maersk Line – Maersk is the world’s largest shipping company and Asbjorn discussed their state-of-the–art South East Asian feeder network and their commitment to development in the region.
- Jeffrey Van Haeften, VP Global Sales, Emirates Sky Cargo – increased passenger volumes have been driving cargo volumes, but Emirates has also invested heavily in its cargo arm – with 251 aircraft on order and two new facilities in Dubai with global connections.
- Dion Stojsavljevic, General Manager at TIC (Reverse Logistics) – a fascinating presentation into the growing issue of returns logistics. With 30% of online purchases returned, it’s a real issue facing global retailers. Dion explained the importance of great customer experience and making every ending count.
This was a fantastic and unique opportunity to learn from the experts, as well as discuss the key issues with peers. Global retailers are operating in a continually disrupted and evolving environment and these events allow us to keep one step ahead
The presentations were followed by an evening of networking over drinks and pan-asian food.
