A ground-breaking logistics programme from supermarket chain, Sainsbury’s and supply chain and freight forwarding company, Allport Cargo Services, has been recognised at an international awards ceremony – the partnership’s second award win in as many months.
Named ‘Supply Chain Partnership of the Year’ at the 2014 Global Freight Awards, this latest achievement comes just weeks after the companies were named joint winners of the ‘Logistics & Distribution’ accolade at the 2014 European Supply Chain Excellence Awards.
The programme has revolutionised the way in which Sainsbury’s transports general merchandise products into the UK from overseas through the creation of an end-toend integrated systems platform. This connects Allport with Sainsbury’s at each step of the logistics process from purchase placement to store delivery and enables Allport to pick the products at multiple overseas origins and pack them ready for delivery to each individual UK store.
