The Mark Edwards Foundation http://markedwardsfoundation.org was set up in memory of our friend and colleague Mark Edwards. Mark was a great character, a huge sports fan and rugby player, and his friends and family created the foundation which is designed to assist young people in the achievement and development of amateur sporting excellence. The funds raised are distributed as grants to be used for clothing, equipment, sports education, coaching, mentoring and club membership fees.
Mark was a pillar of our Supply Chain Management (SCM) Team and his colleagues wanted to use their teambuilding time to support a cause close to him. With most participants coming from the North we chose the beautiful Yorkshire Dales for our sponsored walk and set off with the clouds rolling in above us, but a spring in our step none the less.
The route took us right into the hills and the rain started at our furthest point from shelter… This didn’t dampen our spirits however and we all completed the walk, with the final stretch started with a quick stop at a local pub which had stayed open especially for us. We all stayed the night together in a bunk barn with our directors cooking dinner for everyone in the evening.
It was a great day in memory of our fantastic colleague and our thanks go to the organising team: Sarah Knaggs, Anthony McNulty, Helen Thomas and Jan Kilgallon, who put it all together.
